Music Appreciation

From the Music Appreciation curriculum, this video covers the language musicians use to describe melodic and harmonic elements of music.

This curriculum invites students to analyze the music they enjoy, and to discover connections between their favorite artists and wider cultural and social forces.

Students may enter this course with little knowledge of modern music, but they will gain an understanding of the musical world around them. This course entices students to then contribute to their community by making music of their own!

Music Production 1

From the Music Production 1 curriculum, we describe how low, mid, and high sounds come together as layers to create a larger piece of music.

This innovative curriculum breaks down the key concepts of music production. We provide instructional demonstrations for using the digital audio workstation, Soundtrap (Mac, PC, Chromebook), along with engaging assignments, exercises, games, and more so teachers can seamlessly guide students in applying the theory.

Grades: 4-12

Cost: $2000/year (includes Music Appreciation)

Music Production 2

Music Production 2 dives deeper into more technical music production concepts, like in this video about synthesizers’ oscillators.

In this level, we show students how to use Ableton Live (Mac and PC), an industry-standard digital audio workstation used by music professionals in studios and on stages around the world. Through the ‘Ableton in the Classroom’ initiative, schools can receive this professional software for free! Building on the key concepts of music production covered in the previous level, this curriculum leads students through substantial projects covering high-level principles like sampling and synthesizers.
